Exhibit FAQ

What days is the exhibit open? The exhibit is open during library operating hours. Monday through Thursday 9am to 9pm; Friday 9am to 6pm; Saturday 9am to 5pm; Sunday Noon to 5pm.

What age is the exhibit for? We hope that visitors of all ages will enjoy the exhibit!

The exhibit is in many locations in the library. Where should I start my tour? You may start at any section. If you do the audio tour, the recording begins in the Children’s Department, moves to the Unicorn section in the Teen/Popular Materials area, and then finishes upstairs with the Dragon’s Lair in the Reference Department.

Which mythic creatures are featured? You will see unicorns, griffins, giants, sea monsters, mermaids, and dragons from around the world.

My kids are afraid of large creatures/animals. How do I visit the library?

Before you come to the library, talk with your child about what to expect. Our newsletter features a few photos of the exhibit, and you may even want to check out a book about mythical creatures and talk about the pictures and the possible sizes that they can be. You may also put items on hold to pick up at the drive-thru if that works better for you.

Where can I find materials about mythic creatures? You’ll find special displays around the library. On our online catalog, we feature some favorite titles in the book rivers. On our website, we have a page just for the exhibit. Related booklists and recommendations can be found here.

Where can I find out about programs related to the exhibit? We have a full range of programs to enable visitors of all ages to explore the ideas in the exhibit. Check out the fall and winter Footnotes as well as our special exhibit brochure. Some programs are registration only, and some are drop-in. You can also see program availability on our Events page.

Can I take photographs? Yes. Be sure to check out the photo op in the Children’s Department.

Can we touch the mythic creatures? Please do not touch the creatures or other elements of the exhibit except those that are designated for touching (such as the narwhal tusk).

Where can I buy a T-shirt or souvenir? Please see our online store
