Ela Area Public Library Welcomes New Director Erica Christianson
The Ela Area Public Library Board of Trustees have announced the appointment of a new executive director, Erica Christianson. Most recently the deputy director of EAPL, Christianson took over the reins of day-to-day library operations in September, replacing Lauren Rosenthal, who resigned to pursue other opportunities.
“The Board believes that Ms. Christianson’s deep organizational knowledge, collaborative communication style, and proven leadership skills will provide a seamless transition for the Library and a continued commitment to the success of our recently developed strategic plan,” says EAPL Board President Crystal Steker. “We look forward to the leadership and innovation Ms. Christianson will undoubtedly continue to share with our library patrons, staff and board as our new executive director,” Steker adds.
Christianson has been working for the library almost three decades. She started her professional career as a reference and young adult librarian under Executive Director Carol Larson and has learned about the inner workings of public library service from the ground up. In 2013, she was promoted to deputy director and served as EAPL’s interim director during the global pandemic in 2020, which solidified her success as a leader with a broad skill set and great depth of knowledge and experience.
A seasoned veteran of libraries, Christianson has made significant contributions during her career including managing two successful multi-million-dollar renovations, providing strategic oversight for several departments, developing library policies, facilitating numerous internal procedures and processes and contributing to the development and implementation of Ela Area Public Library’s Strategic Plan. In addition, she was highly praised for her efforts to lead staff and maintain the library’s vibrancy during the pandemic.
When asked about leading the library, Christianson commented, “I am excited for and passionate about the possibilities of what can be achieved. I know that I am ready and able to serve our staff and community.”
Christianson’s appointment was unanimously approved by the library’s seven-member board of trustees on September 19, 2023. Former Children’s Services Department Head Natalie Ziarnik will serve as EAPL’s new deputy director.
